Archelon, the Sea Turtle Protection Society of Greece, founded in 1983 and is a non-profit organization. The object of the Association is to study the conservation of sea turtles and their habitats and management of coastal ecosystems of important turtle nesting beaches in the country. What is more, Archelon aims to treat injured sea turtles, but also performs important work in raising public awareness about environmental protection.
Its actions include registering and protecting the breeding of Caretta in Zakynthos, Peloponnesus and Crete, as well as environmental educational programmes.
Archelon organized an awareness programme, entitled, “The sea, the turtles and me”. The programme includes an exhibition, a film projection, theatrical plays, art workshops, games etc.
The purpose of the educational programme is to stimulate the young students to wonder, to be informed and to have fun discovering new paths to knowledge, to communicate and to develop their skills.
