Composting

The composting workshop that took place in the aforementioned schools included: Firstly there was a presentation of the process of composting in the lecture hall of the school premises that all students and teachers attended. During the power point presentation I tried to explain the importance of said procedure in protecting the
environment, the recycling of organic matter, the management of big quantities of natural waste and how it acts as a soil enhancer that augments its fertility. An attempt was made for the students to understand that the microorganisms are what breaks down natural matter and lead to the production of compost.(they are the small “workers” of the procedure) and we must assure the proper and ideal circumstances under which they work best (c/n=30, humidity, ventilation, structure) Some children were of great help and their presence was rather catalytic in managing to wrap up the workshop. Most of them seemed to acquire a profound understanding of composting and were much willing to implement it in their homes as well.
